KHS Secretariat General Statement Regarding the Heinous Crime of Burning Holy Quran

In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

۞And those who disbelieved in Our signs and were too arrogant to accept them - those are the people of the Fire. There they shall remain forever۞ (Holy Quran, 7:36)

Allah the Most-High, the Most Exalted has said the truth.

As we commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS) who came out seeking reform, fighting corruption, and confronting falsehood in order to preserve Islam from misguidance and falsification, the heinous crime of burning the Holy Quran was repeated with the official approval of the Swedish government.

This crime, which targeted Muslims' feelings and provoked them amid international silence and a timid response pales in comparison to the heinous assault against Islam's sanctities.

Those sanctities for which people have given their lives to preserve throughout history, as well as in recent years, following the issuance of the Sufficiency Defense Fatwa, tremendous sacrifices in terms of money and lives were made by the heroes who responded to the Fatwa to preserve the sanctuaries.

In this situation, efforts must be consolidated and voices must be united to confront misleading ideologies at a time when foes are waging war against Islam and its symbols, as seen by the burning of the Holy Qur'an under the pretext of free expression! Which is not but a crime that incites animosity and hatred, and the Swedish government bears the severe repercussions of such actions that lead to acts of racial incitement.

We also express our support for the letter of the Supreme Religious Authority, represented by His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Sistani to the UN Secretary-General, in which he stated,

(The Supreme Religious authority condemns what happened and calls on the United Nations to take effective steps to prevent the recurrence of similar acts, compel countries to reconsider legislation that allows such occurrences, and call for establishing the values of peaceful coexistence between followers of different religions and intellectual backgrounds based on caring for rights and mutual respect for all.)

Therefore, we call on international human rights organizations, bodies concerned with international law, the International Court of Justice, and active international institutions to condemn this atrocious act, stand firmly against its perpetrators, and take deterrent actions against them by passing an international resolution outlawing any behavior that promotes hostility, hatred, and extremism among various sects and religions in order to maintain world peace.

We beseech God Almighty to protect countries and peoples from every harm and to hasten the reappearance of His Vicegerent, Imam Mahdi (PBUH) to fill the earth with justice and equity, just as it had been filled with tyranny and oppression, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Responsive to prayers.
